Magnum Opus is the largest set of Apple hardware icons ever released.

It contains 280 icons, from the Mac Classic to the iPod and no fewer than 4 million pixels.

If you fancy taking a bite into Apple's past, download the full set on the left.

Magnum Opus is available in seperate sets for users with slower connections.

    4,769,280

Yep, thats right. 4,769,280 individual pixels in a single icon set.

At least thats how many were in the original release of Magnum Opus back on January 24th 2004. And as more and more icons are added, so the pixel count keeps growing.

The set was a labor of love. It started back in August 2002 with a simple eMac icon, and progressivley grew and grew until it encompassed every piece of Apple hardware ever released. And the funny thing is that no-one had ever done it. Of course, whenever Apple releases a new piece of hardware, the GUI community comes to the rescue by throwing out lovely icons of the new pieces of kit - and considering Apple's shipping lapses, its the closest many get to the new hardware for many months.

But in this glorious world of 128x128 pixel icons, no-one had ever thought of compiling a history-cum-icon set of Apple hardware. There are plenty of Apple history sites out there, not forgetting Ian Page's MacTracker, all of which host a plethora of official photography and technical specs.

Yet Magnum Opus is not about drooling over megahertz and tech specs, but instead appreciating the evolution of Apple's product lines over the past thirty years.
